Over 95% of the electric power generated in western North Carolina is provided by two electric utility companies. These companies, Duke Power and Progress Energy, address electric demand through a "generation mix" of coal, natural gas and nuclear power in combination with a small percentage of hydro-electric and other renewable generation. The purpose of this webpage is to provide these utilities with a third-party resource for updating WNC residents on company efforts to improve regional air quality.
